I just recently got a new computer and wireless router. My Xbox is connected by wire to my router, but I am using a D-Link wireless card to keep from having tons of wires running everywhere. I had the connection running open because when I set up, I didn't have anyone living close enough to me to pick it up. Well, I got some new neighbors who happen to own two xbox's and all seem to have laptops or wi fi cell phones, so all of a sudden i had like 10 new things pop up on my connection...totally unacceptable. So I enabled WEP. I know thats not the best security, but I dont live in an area where any random person might come pick up my connection. I use Tversity to stream to my TV in the other room, and it was working fine until I rebooted the Xbox, it stopped picking up media sharing all together.
I know that this is not a problem with the xbox as its hard wired to the router, so it must be an issue with the computer wirelessly connecting to the router. I turned off WEP and it fixed the problem. Ive googled like crazy trying to find a solution, but it seems like most people are either all wireless or all wired-not half and half like me.
anyone on here know how to help me out with this? I'm pretty new to keeping my connection safe from intruders, and I don't want to have to disable WEP everytime I want to watch Tversity, since that and Netflix are my only source of TV entertainment currently.
