I picked up Pokemon Gold from a car boot sale this weekend but it's not saving the game, not even for a minute.
Is it worth trying to take it apart and changing the battery, or should I just bin it? It seems very soon for the battery to be going in it

The battery in GSC goes out faster since it also powers the internal clock. Honestly I wouldn't bother trying to replace it; you should be able to pick up a new one for pretty cheap.

Dude, if you're just gonna toss it, send it my way.RXRob wrote:I picked up Pokemon Gold from a car boot sale this weekend but it's not saving the game, not even for a minute.

In all seriousness, it'll be tough to change the battery. You can do it without soldering but the connections will jump sometimes, meaning your save will go kaput.
Basically, it's worth it if you have a soldering iron readily available and know how to use it.
If it's not worth it, I'll take it for the cost of shipping.

But yeah, the battery is replaceable if you have a solder iron and the skill to use it.

In case you want to try changing the battery here is a good guide. I followed it the three times I've replaced batteries. If you know how to solder it's easy. You can even fit in a little longer lasting battery than what nintendo used originally.
If you buy another copy its battery will likely die soon anyway unless someone already replaced it. They are all starting to go out.

I have no experience whatsoever with soldering, and I share your opinions in regards to throwing software away.
Looks like I'll be offering it up then. First come, first served, so I'll PM you YoshiEgg

I changed the battery on mine before, just taped the pin down with some electrical tape. I haven't had any problems with it whatsoever so far.YoshiEgg25 wrote: In all seriousness, it'll be tough to change the battery. Based on those 3 bits of information, I bet there's a pretty good chance you might also have a crappy bootleg since Europe is rife with GB boots.Location: England

The tipoff for me is Pokemon Gold which is not an official game. So it's definitely a pirate cart.Hobie-wan wrote:RXRob wrote:I picked up Pokemon Gold from a car boot sale this weekend but it's not saving the game, not even for a minute.Based on those 3 bits of information, I bet there's a pretty good chance you might also have a crappy bootleg since Europe is rife with GB boots.Location: England
