how to have PS2 pad analog mode on by default

Post by amk »

Hey,
I've figured you guys are most qualified in field of mods

I've got this ps2 pad hooked up to my pc via a twin usb adapter
I'd like it to be in analog mode by default

This isn't an issue of me being lazy – I'm hacking it to be part of a 4-analog controller interface as part of my diploma project.

Obviously, I've already removed it from the plastic part and removed the vibrators. I've tried affixing a conductor pad onto the analog/digital - switch but it doesn't switch mode to analog by default.

Interesting question. But who would have ever wanted to do that? Meaning chances are slim someone has knowledge of such a mod.
Ask it here.

Do you mean you have the analog always on by jumping the two contacts of the Analog button? It seems that would do it.

Well, but you don't hold down the analog button to use in that mode. It is just an electronic toggle. I'd think the only way to do it is to build a circuit that pulses the trace once for a moment after the pad gets power, which will probably be more trouble than it's worth.

The controller seems to react onto each press, and not on not on the continuous press. So I've figured if the controller received the 'ON' state when being turned on, it would switch to analog mode and stay there – unfortunately it doesn't work this way. The pad doesn't seem to 'receive' the input from that switch immediately.

Interesting, but unfortunately that's well over my abilities

Thanks for the link, will try.
I'm building a case/box (a kind of interface) which will have analog nubs embedded into it. I need both nubs to be active every time as there won't be any other buttons. Now, only one nub is sending(?) data on default (default state being digital)

Are you just using a PS2 pad because it's cheap or plentiful? What about an xbox pad where they're always active?

Cheap and plentiful, had one lying around and they are relatively easy inside. Also it's because I had the necessary usb adapter already. But I might consider switching if I won't figure out a solution.
Thanks for mentioning that

Original Xbox pads are just USB with a different plug I believe. Google and you can probably find a guide to adapt it.
