Hey all, new member who's lurked ocasionally for a few years and once ordered a VGA Adapter for my Dreamcast. Only now have I registered cause I need some help. And it has to do with my old trusty Sega CD model 2. It doesn't read discs anymore.

I recently got Pier Solar and I began to play it with the Enhanced Disc it brings for more awesome music. First time it read it fine, as I could see there were 4 tracks in the Sega CD menu, but since I wasnt noticing any difference with the cartridge while playing the game I decided to actually try a Sega CD game. But it doesn't detect it neither does it detect the Pier Solar enhanced disc now. I opened the system up to see if any of the cables were unattached, but everything seemed fine. I am unsure if whether the laser lens no longer works, if the motor that moves the gears which move the laser lens up and down works, or if the motor that rotates the disc works. The access light blinks and just keeps blinking.

My gut tells me the motor that rotates the disc is gone, considering I messed around with the gears and it seems they go back to their default position when I turn the system on. So the motor that moves the gears seems ok. Its the lens and the rotator im worried about. Any help would be appreciated.

If this thread is in the wrong place, could a mod then please move it to the appropriate forum. Thought that maybe its the reason I havn't gotten any comments yet.

If you take the cover off you should be able to test by pinching the 'door closed' switch and see if it tried to spin up with no disc in. Maybe something else will make itself apparent when you're looking inside too. Can't think of anything else at the moment.

Ok, I tried it. And part of my first assessment was right.The motor which moves the gears for the lens are ok. But the motor for rotating the disc doesn't even peep. Im going to try to replace that.

Maybe see if a wire to the actual motor came free? If you have a multimeter maybe you can check if it's even sending any power to the motor when it should be trying to check for a disc, or if you try feeding the spindle motor 3-5 volts whether it will spin. I don't know the proper voltage, so don't blow it up trying. Maybe you can see a voltage rating on the side of the motor.

There arn't actually any cables connected to it. Its just soldered to the board. Crap. Im gonna need a solder kit too just to replace it. *sigh*.
