Essentially, and to the point. I bought it with 2 controls 2 arcade sticks, offical black light gun, 4mb memory expansion and 4 japanese games....... and also 50 odd "backups" or "bootlegs", however you'd like to label them.
My issue, is that it plays bootleg games. Even some hacked up version of NFS that only features nissan vehicles (very cool, btw).
As these 50 odd games are not official, surely they wouldn't work, right? But they do, so I figured it was modded. So I dropped a PAL game in there, and no luck. Also there are 4 games on standard CD-Rs with a game name written in texta, and they don't work at all either.
Essentially, i'm wondering if there are asian bootlegs that work just as well as a genuine game, or if there is something else in there that im' missing.
Cheers, guys.
BTW, i know I could help myself by opening it up and seeing if it has a chip, but i'm so chuffed that i have a saturn that doesn't screw up in some way or another, and i'd prefer to leave it be on the inside.

Mod chips on the Sega Saturn don't allow it to play other region games. You need to use a Action Replay 4in1 or something similar to play imports.
If you want to play backups from another region you can simply patch them, there is an article on Racketboy on how to do this.

Thank you for that reply. I have an action replay so i'll give that a go for sure.
Perhaps the texter written discs are also not JPN region.
Is there a way to bring up a modchip config screen on any of them by chance?

No config screen, are you wanting to view information on the backups you all ready have, you can do so using the same patching program (It will display the region of the game).

Well you've definitely helped me out here. That program revealed that my disc of Road Rash, was indeed (E) region, so it's PAL and shouldn't work anyhow.
I'll definitely give it a whirl with the action replay, and that will forever answer the modchip question.
EDIT: Turns out you were absolutely right. Huge thanks for solving this so quickly.

patching is also quick and easy if you got the bin/cue file already. I got a modded jpn saturn and just use my US iso and patch it to jpn region. Very quick and easy.

Ummm, that's not really a hack. That's the official Japanese Saturn release of NFS. It only featured Nissan cars on the Saturn version in Japan.ScottyKiLLaK wrote: Even some hacked up version of NFS that only features nissan vehicles (very cool, btw).

Very interesting. And they changed the name to Nissan Overdrive GT?Breetai wrote:Ummm, that's not really a hack. That's the official Japanese Saturn release of NFS. I guess it was a little too perfect to be a hack. Cheers for the correction.
