Never got around to showing you guys my 240Mhz overclocked Japanese Dreamcast.

So check these out... ^^

It was a pain to keep this puppy cool enough so it didn't auto shutdown after a while. But I got there eventually... :P

Already did +3 hour playing sessions and it didn't even stutter once...

PS. The Japanese first model had a shutdown safety. Later models only shut down if the fan wasn't working...

Funky! I like it. Gameplay wise, what does the extra processing power do for you?

If it was merely thinking before, it's a fucking genius now.

Haven't really noticed any difference really. But supposedly some games have less trouble doing what they have to do without slowing down. One of them being Shenmue 2 which I've heard has some stuttering in the movies. Basically, it makes your dreamcast have less trouble processing all the data. At least that's how I understood it...

Remember SNES racing games when a lot of cars were onscreen?... The whole game used to slow down because the SNES had trouble processing all the data. Basically, overclocking solves these problems...

You should throw Tokyo Xtreme Racer 2 in and have a few hot laps around the more complex sections. That would make an excellent test.

Wooh, heh... (scratches back of head)

Maybe one day, but not today...

The picture you posted shows the chip with the leg that goes to the oscillator lifted.

One wire is attached to the original 33Mhz Xtal, the other to the 40Mhz Xtal for overclocked mode.

Somehow the power of the Xtal goes times 6 to get the original 200Mhz output in case of the 33Mhz Xtal, or the OC'd 240Mhz in case of the 40Mhz Xtal.

But technically there are people here that can explain things much better than me for sure.

I just know how to follow the guides (for now) and go from there... ^^

PS Xtal = crystal = oscillator

That's extreme but the Dreamcast was a very powerful system for its time. I can't think of any Dreamcast games that suffer from slowdown that would warrant this. Maybe one of the more crazy bullethell shooters?

You are forgetting smoother playback with the divx player :D

I heard that when forcing Gunbird 2 into 480p it slows down.
You have to force it by switching to 480p while booting or something.
That would be cool to have a 480p Gunbird 2 running with this set up.
