Was watching it on TV a few minutes ago. I'm relatively sure the thing about ANYONE being tracked is a pretty new finding. Before, I thought only police had access to this information. (A lot of people might oppose just that.) Ignore the reporter's sometimes ignorant conveyance of it - it seems serious if you watch on.

Bottom line, a lot of people can get this information. Not cool.

But it's trendy Apple and therefore it's okay to a lot of clueless idiots (There's no nice name for them to be called). Same people who don't mind the sweatshops that produce their fancy iShits.

I'm not good with puns =P I am certain however that this will be addressed as Apple's ministry of propaganda aka Apple PR Dept. initiates damage control mode. Unfortunately most people don't care.. And besides it's not like they don't constantly advertise their location 24/7 on Twitter and the myriad of social networking services handily available!

I imagine those with pesky employers or spouses might wish to get rid of their iDevices now

This was implemented with the 'FindMyiPhone' feature in iOS4.0. Seriously, how do people expect it to work without it tracking where the phone is. Fucking magic?

Doesn't really bother me since I only ever go to work, my house or the shops in town. Seriously, what am I giving away that anybody could find out in 10 minutes if they wanted to stalk me properly?

If you don't want your partner snooping through your stuff maybe you need to develop better trust in your relationship? My ex-fiancee used to hate that I never told her my passwords for anything (I don't tell ANYBODY my passwords. EVER. Don't care who you are). Did my fucking head in. Glad I don't have to face the Spanish inquisition every time I do something without her knowing about it. If you feel you have to conceal your steps maybe you shouldn't be doing what you're doing?

I know that privacy is a big issue these days but this is anonymous data that isn't even that accurate. It approximates to the nearest grid reference, it's not GPS based as that would absolutely kill the battery in minutes (go use a GPS app like CoPilot and watch that battery drain, trust me, I've done it by accident as I didn't have the power adapter in my socket properly whilst using it once). It just uses cell tower triangulation. Which is recorded by your carrier anyway. If you don't want people snooping the information from your computer just delete the file from the backup...

I never use the location services, luckily. Even if I did, I wouldn't stop using my iPhone.

That doesn't mean it's not bullshit, but, it's not something worth going on an iDestroy rampage over.

If you need to track an iPhone to stalk somebody you need to freshen up on your stalkin skills.

Believe it or not, not everyone with an iPhone is a raving fanboy asshat. I am pretty sure the amount of people consumed with anti-Apple posturing and protesting is just as bad as the iPhiles.
