One night I was messing around with my ps2 and hdloader. The top ps2 cover case fell off accidentally with reset/power strip, wish it never happened. I noticed there was a guide online to put it back easily. Well the more I tried to put back the strip, but I crumbled the strip too much. Its hard to put the strip back inside. Today I got my 7 pin strip for ps2 in the mail. It was much shorter then the original one I had, but it fits in right. I put the new strip back in and put everything back in nice and clean. Turned on the console nothing happens, shit... I hear a 1or 2 sec snap.. No light coming on. The little fuse seems okay no burn, just clean. What am I doing wrong? Does the ps2 strip have to be the right one or not? I don't want to give away this ps2 I've had it for about a decade need to play some classics. Originally when I tried to put the old strip back in it made the same snap noise.
I couldn't find my ps2 power AC cable plug, but using a ps1.
I have an original phat ps2 SCPH-35001
You guys think it could be the side battery?

Re: PS2 No power (X_x), need help
From the pictures and description, I'm still not quite sure what happened. My friend had a similar issue during a phat PS2 mod gone wrong where I insisted he do it himself "for great glory" and he mangled the power ribbon cable. http://www.modchip.ca was able to send a replacement within one day (they're close by) and we fixed everything for under $6. The best I can suggest is refer them to this post in an email and use their guide to identify your exact PS2 model. I've dealt with them on several occasions and their support staff were very knowledgeable about some problems I had installing their products. They seem to have dealt with every possible problem imaginable so their support staff should be able to help you select the right ribbon cable and send it to you at a bargain price.

are you sure you have the ribbon plugged in correctly on both ends? make sure they arent plugged in upside down or somehting like that. it shouldnt matter if the new cable isnt exactly the same length as the old one, just as long as it has the right number of pins and correct pin spacing.

Re: PS2 No power (X_x), need help
From the pictures i agree with SnowKitty, looks like you have the cable twisted. Hard to tell though. Hopefully this hasn't zapped the board, look for any burned resistors.
Re: PS2 No power (X_x), need help
Those are the new ps2 ribbon strip, Fu*k I hate to lose this console. Im planning to buy a new power supply. The new ribbon strip seems fine. My old silver strip was mangled, too hard to fix that one. I've tried both ways to put on the strip. The idiots at play n trade tell me I have give them $25 desposit and see whats wrong with it. Then he told me its better to buy a used console from them instead of repairing it, wasteful technology. I'm also thinking of getting another ps2 at the goodwill for cheap if they get any. I noticed a few old xbox (system only/ they could be broken units) for $14 bucks, but not worth it to me. I was showing you guys the 2 pictures if I put it on correctly, i've tried both way. The ps2 consoles (only) at the goodwill usually go for 30 or 50 not sure. Sometimes they may come with memory or missing cd tray logo. I need to sell my college books, quickly before the value decrease. I even put a new battery inside the ps2.

Re: PS2 No power (X_x), need help
I gotten another broken ps2 console with power working. This one doesn't show video and disc drive won't eject at all. The disc drive laser wont even move. I'm think of taking my ps2 laser and replace it. The power button turns red and green lights up. when i try to use the eject button the green light doesn't blink. I can turn off the console properly.
I google search other website but I get other junk about after modchips being installed.
More important is the video and audio is needed to fix first. After that part I'm going to have to with disc drive. I can't find a guide to "ps2 no video and audio". I always find "no video but audio is okay" Nothing on these ps2 board don't look burn or anything wrong with them. I found some tiny dead bugs and some dust. But nothing that serious.
Forget about this I bought a working ps2. selling the used as broken/parts/repair. Overall PS2 is difficult machine to repair for me. I bought the same model I originally had. This version was kind of special to me because it was GT3 bundle. I still have GT3 box with me. Its like the Sega Genesis Street of Rage 2 bundle, I got my picture taken with it when I was little.
