Darkstalkers fans have long been asking for a new entry in the fighting game franchise. It's not hard to understand their appeals, too. After all, there hasn't been a new, full-fledged Darkstalkers game since 1997.
They're not alone in this, too. Even Street Fighter series producer Yoshinori Ono has said before that he's "desperate" to make a new Darkstalkers game. So fans are making noise outside Capcom while Ono's doing it inside the company. The noise would have to be a lot louder than it is now for Capcom executives to take notice, however.
Ono recently told gaming news site Eurogamer that fan requests for a new Darkstalkers game has reached the 100,000 mark, but it's still a long way from the one million that he says Capcom's top executives are looking for.
"At the moment in Capcom's statistics, I've heard it's [the number of requests] gone over 100,000," he commented. "But it's far from a million. We need to keep on going."
"One day, if it goes half a million, Capcom may raise its eyebrow a little bit and I could do what I did in London in 2007 when I announced the comeback of Street Fighter," Ono continued. "In the near future, with your help, it may become true. It's on its way, because we're pretty much where we were with Street Fighter a few years back. So keep it up."
Even if a new game in the series does get the go signal, it may take a while before it comes out. Capcom currently has its hands full with the upcoming Street Fighter X Tekken and a bunch of other fighting game releases including a rumored console port of Super Street Fighter IV Arcade Edition.
