Recent I bought a Gameboy Advance bundle from someone off Kijiji. There was about twenty games and two GBA SPs. I quickly tested them at the guys house and everything appeared to be working but when I got home it turns out that the R button on one of the systems doesn't work.
The guy won't give me a refund and it's not really worth fighting about anyways, but I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions on how to fix it. Everything else about the system works and I need the R button to play Four Swords so I really want to get it fixed if it is worth my time. Does anyone know where/who can fix it or if I can get a replacement button from somewhere? I could try and fix it miself if need be.

Open it up and look at the button. You'll need a tri-wing driver. I haven't been in a GBA, but it could be a rubber dome or a small click switch for the R button. Maybe some dirt or soda got into the button and fouled it. If it's rubber dome it will be easy to clean. If it's a small click switch then probably have to flood it with cleaner several times then let it dry else replace it.

If my memory serves me right, on the SP it is a switch.

Digikey or Mouser will probably have something suitable. But you might be able to get it cleaned enough to work once you've got the system open.

Whenever that happens to me, I just open it up, move the tact switch around a bit, put it back together and it works just fine.
Re: Broken Gameboy Advance
If the button doesn't feel "sticky" or loose it's most likely just a dirty contact. Like everyone else was saying, open it up and check the button/pcb. If it looks like green stuff (corrosion) on the pcb, cleaning it off should fix it.

Both of my SP's shoulder buttons are broken, but I don't have a tri wing driver. Anyone know where I could get one?
