My brother went to a garage sale and picked up a model 2 sega cd for 10 bucks. It doesnt work..
I read about some fixes and I got it to turn on by soldering soldered in a new fuse to replace F301 and cleaned off the corrosion at the connection point between cd and genesis and now it boots up!
Only issue now is the disk drive doesn't spin. I will get into the start screen and it says no disk. It detects the disk cover being closed so thats not the issue. And the laser motor travel works and Ive re-seated the ribbon cable several times. Also, it is being powered by a genuine sega AC adapter that puts out 9v at 1.2amps, so its not a power cable issue. It just wont spin the darn disc!
I really cant think of what could be wrong other than a dead motor(highly doubt that) or a fried IC. Which would make the thing a door stop.
Any ideas?? And yes I already did alot of searching. I came across others with similar issues but no one posted any sort of solution that I could find.
help me revive this sega cd

Actually the motors do die.
You can still get them from mabuchi I believe.

Re: help me revive this sega cd
I would carefully inspect that ribbon cable for the CD drive. I mangled the ribbon in the Saturn when I put in my mod chip, and they're the same type of ribbon. With the Saturn if all the pins didn't make correct contact then the drive wouldn't respond. Another thing to remember is that there are two ribbons on the CD drive unit, one inside the drive, the other connects the drive to the board. Other then that I would have to agree that it's probably the CD drive's motor, the things that move in electronics burn out the fastest.
