What SFC games will save me money?

Post by Jamisonia »

Simple question, I just recently removed the tabs and when I search I find plenty of threads that talk about Super Famicom exclusives, and the best SFC games, but I don't see many about those SFC releases that are just more financially viable than purchasing their American counterparts. I know about the Megaman X series, namely X2 and X3, and Mother 2, which is what prompted me to wonder, what other expensive SNES games can be easily and cheaply attained for SFC?

I know Sparkster, EVO, Harvest Moon, and Ardy Lightfoot for sure. Are you interested in RPGs as well? If so then Chrono Trigger is another.

My issues with RPGs is the language barrier. Would that be overly hard to understand?

If you want to understand the story you can always play along with an English script of the game but that can be very inconvenient. If you're not interested in the story figuring out a battle system wouldn't be as bad but reading weapon names, descriptions, and stats can make things difficult.

Maybe I lucked out but I got R-Type III cheaper as an import. Sonic Wings is a lot cheaper than Aero Fighters. Of course there are simply a lot of games that never made it here.

SFC version of Hagane is a lot cheaper.

Contra spirits aka contra 3 has cheat codes while the US version removed them.

Sonic Wings (aka Aerofighters) 70% or less than Aerofighters
All Mario Games 25-50% less then SNES counterparts
All Donkey Kong Games 25-50% less than SNES counterparts
Super Aleste (aka Space Megaforce) about 25-35% less than Space Megaforce
Most RPG's and Strategy Games significantly cheaper (but for most of us, not enjoyable w/the verbage)
Final Fight 2, 3 and Guy all 25-50% Cheaper
TMNT games 15-20% cheaper
Mega Man 7, X3 both about 50% cheaper
Dracula XX (aka Dracula X) about 50% or more cheaper
Hagane about 60% less
Sparkster 25-30% less
Super Adventure Island II 25% less
Super Metroid 20-25% less
Kirby SuperStar 50% less
Rock n Roll Racing 50% less
Super Bomberman 1 and 2 - 25% less

I think that's about it in terms of US version games valued at $15 or more.

That's significantly cheaper than the US/Pal counterparts. :) Although it is kinda text heavy... Really text dependent to be brutally honestly. :|

The Donkey Kong Country games. Or Super Donkey Kong as they are known there.

I can testify to that. The second and third games are worth about $20 each in the US, but I managed to snag the Japanese versions of both for $5 each.
