nes/snes/genesis cart shelving options?

Post by ThrashOmen »

So on my shelf I love to display them laying down stacking one on top of eachother, but playing them all the time they fall over and get jumbled up and whatnot... So I wish I had some sort of DIY rack, maybe that could be pieced together in sets of five slots. So 3 pieces would allow for 15 carts. Hopefully withou any extra dongles or protruding pieces so they could be put into an actual shelf.

Does anything like this exist?

If not, how do you display your games?

your answer: universal media cases.

These are roughly VHS sized cases that are designed to hold SNES, Genesis, N64 and CD Jewel cases, but can also hold Atari 2600, Famicom Master System Jaguar and more...you can also modify them to house NES games.

also there's a wonderful community that I've been proud to be a member of for years and years called the project project that provides scans of original boxes for these cases.

If you are looking for cart only solutions, bookcases work decently well. The billy series from ikea is mentioned a lot mainly because of the adjustable shelves. They are pretty deep though so you will probably want to superglue some wooden dowels or something in there. When I buy my next set i'm going to go for the dvd/media holders which are a bit shallower.

Also the big plastic utility drawers from target are cheap and work pretty well for loose carts.

I used to use these and I liked them a lot. There is one that is perfect for storing two columns of SNES games.

The Universal game cases are nice, but take up more space.

An older post for N64 carts, same principle:

CD/DVD media shelves work great. This one was about $35 in Wal Mart...

NES carts fit perfectly in the CD spacing, as does Genesis carts.
