Getting SCART RGB Out of Consoles
I'm going to get a SCART transcoder setup soon, so I'm going to get SCART cables for all of my retro consoles. I am going to get them for: Genesis, Master System, SNES Mini, Saturn, Turbo Duo, PS1, and Jaguar. I know I need to mod my SNES Mini to use anything better than a composite cable on it, but what about the other systems? Do I need to mod any other systems to use a SCART cable on them?

http://gamesx.com/ should have a plethora of information for you. I hope you like soldering
good luck!
good luck!

Need FreeMCboot? I'll install it on your PS2 Memory Card for free if you cover postage both ways.
Consoles: I have too much stuff
Arcade: No seriously, I have too much stuff. Someone grab a shovel and dig me out of my basement.

Re: Getting SCART RGB Out of Consoles
It is the bane of my existence. Anyway, it seems like only the SNES Mini needs modification, so I should be good for everything else.skate323k137 wrote:I hope you like soldering

Re: Getting SCART RGB Out of Consoles
I looked into doing this a while back, I never really got around to it. S-video is good enough for me for most of the older stuff.
what kind of transcoder/upscaler are you planning to use? (IE are you converting to vga or component, or what is your end goal). Also keep in mind that japanese and euro scart pinouts are different, and this will likely be an issue. For example if you use an XRGB you'd likely need to follow the japanese s-cart pinout. Making your own cables isn't all that bad, it's pretty basic stuff assuming you can find the right connectors.

I use XRGB-3 and I highly recommend it for use with newer TV's and monitors as it makes a huge difference
Re: Getting SCART RGB Out of Consoles
Most non-plasma flat-panels look crappy fed 240p. What converters/upscalers do you have in mind? CSY-2100? GBS-8220? iScan Pro? HD Box Pro? DVDO Edge? SLG3000? XRGB???

Right? There's a new XRGB "mini" coming out this spring dubbed "Frame Meister"

Master System 1, Saturn, PS1 and Jaguar all do native RGB/SCART out. A $10 cable from eBay is all that's required. No soldering there.skate323k137 wrote:I hope you like soldering
For those that do, GamesX has already been mentioned, but there's also mmmonkey:

Re: Getting SCART RGB Out of Consoles
Indeed. The SNES mini is pretty easy to mod for RGB, but the TurboDuo takes a bit of work, since you have to replace the AV out port with an 8-pin DIN port, build an amplifier board and wire that to the TurboDuo's video encoder.elvis wrote:lisalover1 wrote:Genesis, Master System, SNES Mini, Saturn, Turbo Duo, PS1, and Jaguar.Master System 1, Saturn, PS1 and Jaguar all do native RGB/SCART out. Re: Getting SCART RGB Out of Consoles
Just make sure your TV can accept 240p over component, most can't.
Sega Saturn NTSC will not work with a European SCART plug. The pins are different. You will need a cable like this
http://cgi.ebay.com/Sega-Saturn-RGB-SCA ... 230ca473e7
I have yet to try this Saturn cable, but when I get some money I will.
Im still in a pickel trying to get RGB out of a NA SNES. People say a GC RGB Scart cable works, I bought that, lines are present. Could just be my RGBs cable, as my DVDO edge accepts RGBs, not SCART directly.

Re: Getting SCART RGB Out of Consoles
Yeah my LCD most absolutely does not accept 240p over component. No image. Just behaves as it's supposed to when encountering an unsupported video mode.Marspants wrote:I use XRGB-3 and I highly recommend it for use with newer TV's and monitors as it makes a huge difference
Luckily I've got a plain old CRT around. That didn't need an XRGB. Simply converting the RGB signal to component was enough, as it already handles 240p correctly.
Lum fan.
