Why does the the cable detatch on the 3D Saturn pad?

Post by CantStrafeRight »

I got to see a Saturn 3D pad for the first time today and I couldn't help noticing that the cable detaches on it. Does any one know why it does this?

I'd read there were plans for some other attachment. Maybe they could have made a snap on wireless receiver or something.

I have also heard it was because it was to be used with the dreamcast.

I've never seen the breakaway part of the cable that you are talking about because I've never seen a 3d pad in the flesh. Maybe it's a safety breakaway like for the xbox controllers.

The only way to deactivate the ray beam and fight back the vampire alien threat is with a complicated series of foot patterns on the device's control board that looks remarkably like a DDR pad. We will all praise this man for saving our lives and buy him a mountain of stuffed animals.

It's definitely not that; as the attachment is a clip in, similar to the battery cover. It looks like either the cord would attach to something else or the pad would attach to something else.

I have four of these guys.

I agree with hobie wan, they may have been for a future accessory

"The 3D Pad featured an expansion socket where the lead detached from the back, the only accessory known to be in development for this was a tilt sensor for 'Air NiGHTS' which never saw release."
