Kirby: Nintendo's Swan Songs
The *console iterations* of Kirby always seem to come at the end of system's life cycle.
Kirby's Adventure(1993)- Put the final nail in the coffin for the nes.
Kirby Super Star(1995)/Kirby Dreamland 3(1997)- Super Star was released in the shadow of the impending n64 and Dreamland 3 was the last North American first party release for the Snes
Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards(2000): The gamecube came out a year later.
Kirby Epic Yarn(2010): ...
So is Nintendo going to release a new console sometime between 2011-2012? Or has Kirby become a title that only gets a installment every decade? Or is Kirby going to get another title released(Dreamland 4?) then put a book end to the wii? Maybe I'm reading to far into this
*Note: Not spin offs or handheld releases like: Dream Course, Air Ride, or Squeak Squad*

Does Kirby's Dreamland count as a "handheld release like..."? It wasn't a swan song for the GB. The new Kirby is not one for the Wii, either. It still has years left.Mr.White555 wrote:*Note: Not spin offs or handheld releases like: Dream Course, Air Ride, or Squeak Squad*

I don't count dreamland(1). This is just something I'm throwing around. It's probably a coincidence but it seems like a kirby game makes it into the last year or so of a home console's line up.Breetai wrote:Does Kirby's Dreamland count as a "handheld release like..."? Re: Kirby: Nintendo's Swan Songs
Yet Kirby's Canvas Curse was released at the start of DS's life cycle. It was the reason I bought a DS as a matter of fact. I think the best and most noteworthy Kirby games came out on handhelds. In fact most of the Kirby games made were made for handhelds. Discounting the handheld releases in this argument doesn't make sense. I thinks its just coincidental they were released later in the consoles life cycle.

Not if the 3DS is any indication.Breetai wrote:The new Kirby is not one for the Wii, either. It still has years left.Mr.White555 wrote:*Note: Not spin offs or handheld releases like: Dream Course, Air Ride, or Squeak Squad*

I don't think Epic Yarn counts, as it's not a standard Kirby game. Kirby's Avalanche and Kirby's Dream Course certainly didn't spell doom for the SNES. Also, Gamecube ended with a Zelda game.

That is if you don't count a sidescrolling action platformer Kirby game as a real installment in the main series of action platforming games starring said titular character.......flamepanther wrote:I don't think Epic Yarn counts, as it's not a standard Kirby game. Re: Kirby: Nintendo's Swan Songs
By those standards, Super Paper Mario is a standard installment in the Super Mario Bros. series. Similar standards would make Bomberman Zero and Street Figher: The Movie: The Game count as regular installments in their respective series.Mod_Man_Extreme wrote:That is if you don't count a sidescrolling action platformer Kirby game as a real installment in the main series of action platforming games starring said titular character.......
Because the game mechanics, cast, and presentation are all markedly and fundamentally not what is standard for the series?YoshiEgg25 wrote:How the hell is Epic Yarn not a standard Kirby game?
Re: Kirby: Nintendo's Swan Songs
Standard for the series. Standard sounds boring and not really innovative if you ask me. Hows a series supposed to evolve if theres always a standard way to make it? In all fairness, there hasn't been that many "standard" releases this console generation. You gave Super Paper Mario as a example. Pretty much every Mario game released this console generation hasn't been a standard release.flamepanther wrote:By those standards, Super Paper Mario is a standard installment in the Super Mario Bros. series.
