I was gonna perform this mod on the Dreamcast: http://www.mmmonkey.co.uk/console/sega/dc-region.htm
And install a simple easy 4 wire mod chip, too. Does anyone know where I could find a 4 wire mod chip?
I know I can just make copies of the games (which I do), but I've got about 50 JAP and about 20 US games, so y'know. I'd rather just play them rather than having to buy about 70 more discs and sit there downloading and burning them. And this way I know there won't be any problems seeing as they're original, but it is very rare that I've found problems with burnt games, but whatever.
So does anyone know where I could find one?
Dreamcast mod chips
Re: Dreamcast mod chips
not to nag, but i think JAP may be a derogatory term in certain circles. It's best to use JPN when referring to region that specific areas region code.

JAP is a region... "JAP"AN.
Re: Dreamcast mod chips
Don't know if you're aware emurozii, but you could just burn one boot disc, in order to load all your import titles. I personally just make do with that (although ignore the often, bizarrely, recommended Utopia boot disc - it's crap for imports. I use a Codebreaker disc).
But if boot discs aren't your thing, it's cool if you want to try the modding route.

Re: Dreamcast mod chips
Dreamcast mod chips are hard to come by, I bought one at ncs years and years ago but they no longer have them. The mod really doesn't add anything that a boot disc doesn't other than not having to disc swap.
and JAP is a derogatory term, it was used in the US during world war 2 to refer to Japanese and they were rounded up and... well ya'll know the story.
The usual term for japanese region is JP. as in JP, NA, EU. Japan, North America, Europe.

Oh, not this whole Japan thing again. I am sure he wasn't using it intentionally. Let's get back on topic.
If you want to shorten Japan, use JPN. It's still 3 keystrokes.
I was unaware the Dreamcast had a modchip.

Oh my, I can't seem to understand why people from the USA get upset when some one says JAP (unless they happen to be Japanese). Wonderful, I get it, calling a PERSON a jap is no good. But referring to inanimate objects as being JAP, how is that gonna be hurtful to a person? Person A: "I have some JAP Saturn games." Person B: "You've insulted me!" See what I mean? I just can't understand how referring to video games and/or regions will insult a person! And I definitely can't understand why people who are not Japanese can take offense to it.
I'm not understanding what you mean. You were gonna do the region mod AND install the mod chip?emurozii wrote:I was gonna perform this mod on the Dreamcast: http://www.mmmonkey.co.uk/console/sega/dc-region.htm

If you get your images from dcisozone or snesorama, most games posted are self booting. Nothing chips needed - not even a boot disk. There are tutorials out there on making a non self booting image into a self boot one too.

More commonly used nowadays as slang for "Jewish American Princess".gennss wrote:Dreamcast mod chips are hard to come by, I bought one at ncs years and years ago but they no longer have them. The mod really doesn't add anything that a boot disc doesn't other than not having to disc swap.

Re: Dreamcast mod chips
The word itself is offensive to some, just courtesy using JPN or Japanese.
Don't know where you can a Mod Chip now, was common years ago. A less desirable alternative is a boot disc for all your original imports.
