Got a Genesis 3, not working

Got a Genesis 3 on ebay with the seller saying excellent working condition but it does not work when hooked up to my HDTV. I'm using the RF adapter on channel 4 and when I turn it on the screen goes from static to black so I know the genesis is connected but the tv is receiving no signal. I took it apart an all seems ok but maybe its the cart port, im not sure if it needs to be cleaned or how to do so.

Sounds like what happens when you need to clean the console and/or cart(s).

Cleaned and it works.

I've heard, although I have no personal experience with, that sometimes HDTVs will filter out signals from a console connected RF because they're too weak.
