Donkey Kong Country Returns!

Post by Jrecee »

Got this today. Target was giving away a $10 gift certificate with purchase. Sweet.

The game rules. I can tell it's going to get tough. I went through quite a few lives in the first world.

They've sort of removed the 'tag team' gameplay which actually works a little better. Instead of diddy kong being the obviously superior character in 99% of situations, he just rides on your back and gives you a double jump/hover ability when you've got him. Each character has two hits, so you can basically take 4 hits now, as opposed to the 2 of the original games. No more going to candy kong to save your game, it saves after every level, which is kind of the standard nowadays I guess. I haven't been trying to hard to collect everything, but I can tell that if you're someone who likes to get 100% you're going to be spending a lot of time on this.

I haven't tried the two player yet but I think it's more like Mario Bros Wii where you both have control of a character at the same time, unlike the first 3 where only one person could be playing at a time.

I hope they make more of these.

Considering that phrase never made any sense in the first place, I propose we just change it to It's on like Conky's Bong.

I've been playing through it, and it's been quite fun. The gameplay feels enough like the old games, but is still fresh enough to stand on its own, due to a bunch of new features. The only complaint I have is that there a couple controls that rely on shaking the Wiimote; an action most of us know a bit too well to be finicky and annoying. Other than that, DCKR is awesome, and I don't regret buying it one bit.

my biggest complain about this game is the rolling. So many situation a try to shake the controller to the right to roll and then I die. It just feels awkward. The classic controller would make this game invincible!!!

Yeah the shaking is pointless. They have two buttons for grabbing, they could have just used one of those for rolling. Or just have them roll and grab like the original games. I don't mind shaking to do the ground pound though.

But really, they should have just made this gamecube controller compatible.

They should have made it Gamecube controller and Classic Controller compatible! THEY SHOULD MAKE ALL GAMES SUPPORT ALL CONTROLLERS!

Damn, I forgot this game was coming out. I've been so shot from work. I even had it marked on my calender but I forgot to order it. Oh well, I just ordered it now, from Amazon, with 2 day shipping so at least I'll get it before the holiday (and my first day off from work in over a week!).
