Any reason to go with a japanese saturn if i'm going to 4in1

Post by benevicious »

I'm thinking of picking up a saturn soon, I see a lot of people say to go with a japanese saturn because the games are cheaper and it has some exclusives. Is there any reason to go with a japanese saturn over a US one if I plan on modding it and getting a 4in1?

Only if you want to play the Shining Force III games the right way like I did.

To play Shining Force III Scenario 3 with the characters from the previous games you have to be able to access your memory card ingame, you can't do that with a AR 4-1.

That's about the only reason I know of.

4in1 isn't quite as helpful as a ram cart for memory hogs. Swapping save files gets somewhat tedious. AFAIK it also allows storing multiple files with the same name, without attaching creation dates to them. Annoying if you're forgetful.

It's worth noting that some JAP saturn games won't work on a US system with an AR4 in 1. As far as I know it's just Azel Panzer Dragoon RPG, but there could be others.
Current systems: Atari 2600[x2], NES(top loader), SNES, N64, Gamecube, Wii, Saturn, Dreamcast, Playstation, PS2, PS2 slim, xbox, xbox 360, Turbografx-16, Game Boy Pocket, Game boy SP[x2], Nintendo DS[x2], Nintendo DSi, Nintendo 3DS, Game Gear, Neo Geo Pocket Color, Wonderswan Color, Neo Geo MVS.

Some games also have issues running on Action Replay 4-in-1. I know of Mobile Suit Z Gundam, Soukyugurentai, and one (or both) of the Samurai Spirits games. I think also one of the Real Bout games also have corrupt character sprites.

The gray Saturn looks cooler anyways.
