Games like God of War

Hey,

I just finished up GOW3 last night and totally loved the completeness of the game; the story, graphics, gameplay, sound and cinematic experience totally turned me onto the series. I bought the HD collection which I will start next, but I wanted to know what other PS3 games capture those same elements? I have yet to play the Uncharted series, does that have a similar cinematic feel?

The stylized 3D hack n' slash is my second favorite genre behind shmups, and the closest games to God of War series would be the Devil May Cry series (especially 1 and 3). Only 4 is on PS3, and though it isn't one of the better DMC games, it is still solid.

Otherwise for the PS3 you'd want to look at Heavenly Sword and Wolverine, maybe the Ninja Gaiden games, the new Castlevania, and maybe even inFamous and Prototype. You'll probably find that God of War 3 trumps all of these, though.

Thanks for the input. I should have mentioned it didn't have to be a hack and slash game, just the solid elements. I think I'm burned out on the sandbox genre for a while. I'm in the middle of playing infamous and I'm actually bored with it. I guess I should have said something more linear and less open. I have DMC4 on PC and have liked it a lot, gorgeous graphics.

Heavenly Sword and Wolverine (which is one of the best movie-tie in game ever) are probably what you want then.

Batman Arkham Asylum. Linear objectives in an open world. Just finished it last night and I was very impressed.

Also, try Conan. Its the poor mans GOW but it is pretty fun, and it has lots of boobies.

Awesome, Batman AA was on my list, sounds like that's what I want. I had asked about Uncharted, is that linear? Thanks for the help guys.

That's what I hear, I should just bite the bullet. I had been resistant to them solely because they are resistant to price drops. I buy the majority of my games in the $10-15 range so I have scooped up other games first.

I'll second Batman:Arkham Asylum. It is EXCELLENT. If you like Batman at all it'll be one of the best games you'll ever play and since there is a sequel on the way, might as well check it out now. I will say that Arkham Asylum has one of the best combat systems I've seen. The challenge rooms in particular will give you a real appreciation for it. That's where Arkham Asylum becoms an old school brawler

As for Wolverine, just to be clear. I think he meant X-Men Origins:Wolverine and I loved that game. Brutal, violent, less cinematic than God of War but I enjoyed the combat much more

yes, both uncharted's are pretty straight forward and linear, but boy are they a blast to play. I have both and am currently going thru the first. There are some parts that had me on the edge of my seat. The sense of scale is on par with GoW too. The combat can get a bit repetitive, but like GoW isn't? Take the plunge, you be very happy you did.
