Looking for a modchip for Slim PS2. Any suggestions?

Post by ThrashOmen »

Preferably something solderless as I'm sure I'd botch my loveable lil' PS2.

I've heard that fat models are easier and better to mod, but I prefer the Slim because in my early years of PS2-hood I went through about 3 FAT models, all of which ended up going kaput because of unreliable hardware.

I've been reading up on DMS 4, does anyone have one of these installed?

Here's what I'd like in a modchip.

No swapmagic tricks
Can read backups of games, import games and any sort of audio/video on CD-R/CD-RW/DVD-R etc

I wouldn't mind some sort of interface option, maybe even something that would allow me to put my own boxart/screen shots into? Something kind of front-endy, but I can do without any sort of interface really. And I'm not particularly looking for any sort of OS or special features.

Any one have any suggestions?

What version Slim do you have? Model # or even better GH board version.
I have used Matrix Infinity, modbo 4.0, Xeno PS and DUO 3.
They all work great for back ups and imports.
once you know the models # I can get you the diagrams so you can see if the soldering job could be done by you or a member from the forum.
Slims do not have solderless solution.

Free McBoot... it doesn't let you play imports, but you could always make an iso of your imported games, patch those and play them.

It says model number SCPH - 75001.

I've never soldered anything before in my life, how difficult is it?

Thanks for the suggestion on McBoot, I checked that one out but I'd like ease of use with my imports, especially If im going through the trouble to do surgery on my PS2, haha.

I put a Matrix in mine, as at the time it was the only one able to be wired to my specific slim. There are so many slim revisions it makes the head spin.

I have a Thunder Pro II chip. Best chip ever, but it's difficult to install.

All point are smaller than a tip of a ballpoint pen
Most chips about the size of a half dollar coin.
I have a Xeno PS for $20 shipped.
Same diagrams as the Modbo 4.0

So I just found out that there are a bunch of really cheap PS2's online and I may buy one so just incase I do botch it, my original is still ok. I mean some slims are on CL for as low as $15.

I don't think he can use Free MCBoot.
