Any love for Sega Touring Cars on here?

Post by Curlypaul »

Seems like this game is universally shunned but I always liked it, anybody else?

I bought this when it was new, and tbh I was dissapointed that the cars didnt handle the same as Sega Rally but I stuck with it and eventually got into it.

Sure the learning curve is steep, and the framerate is low but there is a great sense of speed and I love how twitchy the cars are - it makes for a great sense of acheivement when you get those slick lap times in.

I shunned away because of the bad frame rate.
I wished the port was better, then I would have loved it.
Same with Daytona. Both no Sega Rally.
After Sega Rally it went all downhill, racing wise.
And then Manx TT came, which had a Sega Rally feeling.

Probably because no one could use the software engine of Sega Rally.
Didn´t something similar happen with Sonic which was never released, because it used an engine from another game. (was it Nights?)

So, you did try Manx TT right? Yeah I know, it´s with bikes. But after Sega Rally it´s the best post-Sega Rally Saturn racing game. Try it. check it out: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LpBGnDjGR08

Played Sega Rally last Saturday. The PS2 version, enabled native 480p on ps3 and had a blast. Great game, better than the Saturn port, but the Saturn port has way better music!.

Played a demo of it back in the day but other than that I've never really tried it. Thanks for the advice, I'll keep a look out for it, its cheap enough.

Thats daft about the software engines, considering all these games are Sega's.

I was going to get the PC release of STCC, but ultimately opted for Codemasters' ToCA2 as it was frankly the better game (both were 1998 releases). I loved the (licensed?) dance music of STCC though.

There is a fully working 2 player version down at my local arcades, it's great fun but I never play it now because Daytona USA (while not working right) is so much better.

The only thing bad about Manx TT Superbike on the Saturn were the time clocks - they were sometimes next to impossible to beat. You could be playing on the easiest setting and be way out in first place and still have the clock run out on you. It was ridiculous

(HAHAHA I have that with Battle Gear 2 on the hardest track I can only beat with a C-class car!.)
I do not remember that I had that in Manx TT though
