I have not gone and and looked at the papers on Wikileaks site but seems like some major bad PR to me. I am rather fond of Wikileaks, it seems to be the only way to get that transparency we were told was so important.

The internet really is making it harder and harder to run a nation-state these days. You have to wonder what things would have been like if the internet had been around during the Cold War (and by that I mean the internet as we know it today). What I never understand is why people want to know everything the government does.

I encourage my students to use Wikipedia. It is a great place to start a research project by either using the sources posted at the end of the entry or for facts to google and find documented elsewhere.
As for Wkileaks, I have to agree with MrPopo. The amount of info true and false out there can be scary.

What I never understand is why people want to know everything the government does.

We want to have the means to know that our elected officials are doing what we elected them to do, to put it simply.

Of course even then the average person isn't likely to take the time to pour over legal mumbo, so meh. It's the principle of the matter I suppose. We elected them, we don't' think they should be hiding anything from us.

edit; Also, That is an excuse. To be fair, alot of the decisions made aren't made by people who are elected, Secretary of etc,etc,etc
