Is there a way to avoid a Sanyo Drive in a SS externally ?

hi RB scene , i was wondering if there is a way to avoid a Sanyo Drive in a SS externally without opening it up ?........if im correct Sanyo Drives have the 2 Coils around the Laser eye and the other Models do not ie 64-Pin and 32-Pin Drives.

You might get more help if you change the SS acronym. I think you mean Sega Saturn. Also I guess you mean how to identify externally what drive is inside? Not sure on that one.

Why not a Sanyo? JVC seems the most common.

I am going to assume that you are asking because you are looking to add a modchip to the Saturn. IIRC, only Model 2s were made with the Sanyo drive, and then, only some of them. Therefore, if you were to buy a Model 1, you would avoid the Sanyo, but also get the model that is harder to mod. Aside from that, no clue.
