Cheaper Saturn import alternatives
Cheaper Saturn import alternatives
I've recently purchased my first Saturn (took 14 years) and I've been looking around and noticed that some games are cheaper if you purchase the Japanese version when compared to the NA version, such as House of the Dead. So I was wondering what are some other cheaper Japanese alternatives out there that could be played with relative ease (by which I mean little or minimal Japanese)? And they can be common games, they don't have to be rare.

Japanese games I know first hand play fine if you dont speak Japanese and dont cost much.
. Capcom Fighters (Alpha series, VS series, etc)
. SNK Fighters (KOF, Fatal Fury, etc)
. Virtua Figher(S) /Fighting Vipers/ Fighter Megamix
. Daytona USA
. Sega Rally
. Christmas NiGHTS
Just think of any game that uses small amounts of text, if you find it cheaper to import it, import it. Games like fighters, platformers, light gun games, arcade ports, racing games, etc are not going to matter if the small text they have is in Japanese.

I see, thank you. I was wondering about Panzer Dragoon 1 & 2, if they would play alright in Japanese. Also would Japanese controllers work in a NA console?

Yeah, all hardware is compatible across all regions.
When I saw the title, I thought you meant games that were different across regions. For example, Pandemonium in Japan was called Magical Hoppers, and featured a different set of playable characters. Oh well, got excited for nothing. =P

I have the JPN version of Panzer Dragoon Saga which cost me about 1,000 yen, which is about 5% of the cost of the US version. There is no language barrier for me, so it doesn't make sense for me to buy the English version.

The RockMan (MegaMan in US) games are cheaper if imported. I know. I bought both X3 and X4 on eBay for super cheap, while I was seeing the US versions going for a lot more.

Shining Force 3 scenario 1 is much cheaper. You could almost buy the trilogy of scenarios for the price of the American scenario 1. There are also translations available for the scripts.
