Tomb Raider - PSX doesnt work on my PS3

So i picked up Tomb Raider on the PSX cheap...$3. I was very excited to play this since I only ever owned the PC version that uses windows 95! Imagine my horror when my PS3 goes black when it loads the system...

I put the disc in my ps2 and it works... OH and i see I can download this game from PSN for like $10....

yeah had the same problem with ff8, pal version. ffs sony if you can't emulate your system properly use epsxe

Ps3's psx emulation is really crappy in my opinion. Nearly every game I've tried was riddled with graphical errors and sometimes even crashes.

I have had zero problems playing PS1 games on my PS3, and I've played a ton.

Haven't tried Tomb Raider, though.

There's a website that tracks compatibility for PS1 and PS2 games(if you've got the right model) on the PS3 that says Tomb Raider should be good, though admittedly it looks like they're checking non-English PAL versions.

I've only tried three PS1 games in the PS3, and they've not had any problems. Front Mission 3, Gex, and Legend of Mana have all played just fine.

I just tried Tomb Raider myself. Menus load up fine, but when you start the game it just hangs at a black screen. The disc is in mint condition.

Most of my games work fine, a few have various minor graphical glitches (FF8 is the first that pops into mind).

The worst I've had is probably Final Fantasy Anthology - FFV disc, which crashes when you try to save.

Maybe save the PS3 for strictly PS3 games, use your PS2 or if room get a cheap PS1. With the YLOD risk, unnecessary milage on PS3.

PSN PS1 download rentals are moot if you wanna use Action Replay.

I love my wireless Dual shock controllers. Maybe i will just bite the bullet and find myself a good PS2 wireless controller. Problem is I would like an offical sony one, but...... i doubt one exists...

Well the graphical glitches really bugged me

don't you pull that contradiction-pointing-out-wizardry on me I won't fall for it
