Must own PS1 and PS2 games.
Must own PS1 and PS2 games.
I've been thinking about bulking my PS2 collection up and starting a PS1 collection as well. I was just wondering what everyone's take is on for games that should be in any video game fan's collection from these consoles. That way next time I'm in gamestop looking at PS2 games I'll know what to look for and when I start buying PS1 games, I'll know what to look for then as well. Thanks!

Check out the 'topics' part at the top of the Racketboy webpage. Find the PS1 and 2 sections. There are articles about the hidden gems, defining games, and more for both consoles. I say this because any list I give you would be a repeat of what is already there.
But I will throw in Persona 4 as a must have, that may too new to be on any Racketboy article.

If you collect games make sure to play them, don't leave games hidden for 2 decades of dust.

Final Fantasy 7-9 and 12
Crash Bandicoot 3 (maybe 2 as well, but stay away from 1 it's really crap)
Felony 11-79 (really cool racing game) and any of it's sequels (known as Runabout series)
Oddworld games
Tomb Raider 1 2 and 4
Kingdom Hearts 1 and 2
Herc's Adventures. Now this is a really good game, no one seams to have heard about. It's like an open world beat em up, with many RPG elements. They closest game to it would be an action oriented zelda, with no dungeons, but with the entire action and puzzles taking part in the huige overworld. And what is best about it, is that is has co-op a feature like all good beat em ups, a feature the 32 bit era forgot to use in it's games.
anyway here is a gameplay video of it if you like to see what it is

Oh man Oddworld is a must have. AMAZING 2D adventure/platformer game. Amazing story, great gameplay, great tactics and skill needed. So rewarding too! nothing bad about it. Absolute must!

I'm a big fan of those two systems. If you're a strategy person, I highly recommend Final Fantasy Tactics for the PS1 and Disgaea for PS2. Also Final Fantasy VII-X are among the series best. And there's also Legend of Dragoon for the PS1. Really, we're talking about two humongously successful consoles with a very vast library, so I guess I should ask what kind of games specificly you enjoy

Oddworld was hyped way too much and it failed to deliver, but the final product was entertaining. Nothing the 16-bit cinematic platformers hadn't delivered before, but the graphics/audio/charm of the games made them classics.

It's a pity that after oddworld:exodus it all went down the shitter.
