So it's pretty much for sure that COD is going to go south

Post by BoringSupreez »

Right? I mean, if Infinity Ward has pretty much barfed up the guts that made it what it was, and all that will be left to make COD games is Treyarch, it's probably not going to be so great anymore. COD 3 and COD: Finest Hour show how well non-IW COD games are. Oh well. Maybe Respawn will make a new, great FPS series.

It kind of sucks that everything has turned out the way it has. I only ever cared for the modern warfare games, but the mess that it is now is a shame. I am excited however for the new studio Respawn, and something new.

CoD has stopped being great when 3 came out. (4 was decent, IMO)

Maybe its just me but they started downhill after United Offensive. That game had so many innovations to the series like ranks, vehicles, sprinting, and cooking grenades. They completely skipped over this in CoD2. Modern warfare was an improvement. MW2 was a step back.

Now the series is doomed to mediocrity. The same thing happened with medal of honor when they left.

I'm not going to lie, if Treyarch made a committed zombies-COD game, I would buy it in a heartbeat.

As long as they kept the Nazi zombies theme I'd be all over it too.

When a series needs to finally die, Bobby Kotick is the man to do it.

He killed Guitar Hero after it overstayed its welcome on Best Buy shelves. He pushed Tony Hawk games into a face plant after it spun too many 720s. Now he's destroying Call of Duty after duty called one too many times. Way to go Bobby! Bring 'em down! (you greedy schmuck~)

Yep. Bobby Kotick sure knows how to kill those golden egg layers. What series does Activision have left? Surely it's just movie cash-in games now? There's the Blizzard games of course, but I don't think Bobby Kotick has much say in the development of those games, Blizzard is just one of those developers, they've had a history of telling 'higher ups' to fuck off and then promptly escorting them out of the building when they have tried to meddle in the past.

We all know Bobby Kotick is an absolute fucking moron who is greedy beyond belief. The guy thinks that an MMO with over 60 million active subscriptions which pulls in at least £461,400,000 a month net profit is not making enough money. The guy is clearly deluded.

I think it may have run its course, anyway -- even if pin in the Infinity Ward grenade hadn't been pulled. Maybe I'm mistaken, but it seems to me that within the FPS realm, CoD has created for itself a niche that is so specific that it would be hard for them to break the formula. Further, it seems, that the times they do stray from their own conventions, the results are less impressive. For instance, the kill streak rewards in WM2 are incredibly unbalanced and creates a horrible king-maker situation. The same was true of World at War, but the player seemed to have more direct control of his own destiny when those rewards were used against him.

Then again, what do I know. I still think World at War is the pinnacle of the series. Great map selection, that got even better with the DLC... Vehicles... The only slight against the World at War, for me, is how horrible it can be to join parties with friends, and how frequently a single host ends a game. One of the most significant advances in the series, for me, is in fact MW2 ability to migrate from one host to another, mid-game.

Frankly I'm tired of all of these war games anyway. The concept of modern warfare and WW2 based games has been done to death for years now. I would be intrigued by a future setting (like BF 2142), pirate based, or medieval based. Attacking a castle w/a halberd and getting killed by boiling pitch, great fun!

E: Upon further thinking, the epic battles from the Total War games could be awesomelly reproduced with a 64 or 128 man battle. Siege weapons, various rides (elephants, horses), tons of classes and weapons, hmmm... maybe I should copyright this idea.
