I never picked up a GC while they were out, but the ability to potentially load games from SD intrigues me.
What is the compatability level like? Or is it easier to use a Wii to load GC images from disk?

Re: Gamecube SD loading
Loading Gamecube ISOs from SD is a pretty inconvenient solution, especially since GC-SD adapters don't allow the use of SDHC cards [wow, that's a lot of acronyms!]. There's a better solution that still uses the SD adapter; there is a program you can use to load Gamecube backups from the disc drive without a modchip. I believe it's called GCOS. I've used it before to play a backup, and while the compatibility isn't perfect, it does the job quite well.
