How are games sealed in the rest of Europe?

Post by Niode »

I live in the UK and have bought plenty of brand new PS2 games, they all come with the cellophane wrapping with the 'Playstation 2' logo seal around the lower third of the case. Same as all Nintendo's games have done (albeit a 'Nintendo' logo instead of a 'Playstation 2' logo of course :P)

I've just recently received my Fire Pro Wrestling Returns PAL in the post, I bought it being sealed. Now I'm worried that it's a reseal since I've never seen a game sealed in this way before...

I am not familiar at all with PAL games but that looks like a reseal to me. That is what the reseals look like when you buy used games from FYE here in the US.

Yeah that definitely looks resealed.

Looks like someone with a shrink wrap machine to me. Reseal.

Hmm, the price sticker is on the outside of the plastic though...

Still not convinced until I know definitely it's not how they seal them in the rest of europe/italy (the game was only ever released for PAL in Italy, by 505Games).

If it's definitely a reseal then I won't feel guilty about unwrapping it, but if it is a genuine seal then I'd rather keep it and look for an unsealed copy since this game is so rare in PAL.

eugh, there's a sealed copy on ebay right now with the Playstation 2 strip...

Looks like I have bought a reseal. Godamnit!! Oh well, means I can play it on my PS3 guilt free now I guess.

Would I be able to get a partial refund since the ebay listing stated sealed?

Would still like some further confirmation though from any of our EU members.

You could try for a partial refund but they might just tell you to send the game back for a full refund.

It really looks like a reseal, and I'm almost sure of it because that store trades old games for cash ans sells them resealed, I've seen a bunch of those used games while looking around the store for a good deal.
The new games here in Portugal are shrink wrapped just like in the UK, and I've never seen a new game with that ugly seal line in the middle of the box.

Thanks for confirming. I'll not bother keeping it 'sealed' then. Bit miffed that I paid over the odds (not as much as the ebay link I mentioned though) for a 'sealed' copy but oh well...

Yeah, I would push for partial refund, stating your reasons. Product not 100% as advertised.
Tactfully request, report to E-Bay if no luck.

But at least you don't have to wait for a second unsealed copy to play.

It seems it was bought originally at a Portuguese store part of a big chain (Worten). Maybe the ebay seller isn't (fully) to blame as it might have been re-sealed by Worten, as the price is on the outside and all. The most likely is that it was returned to the shop by buyer 1, then they re-sealed and sold (a bit lower priced or not, can't be sure) by buyer 2, and then buyer 2 sells to Niode on Ebay.
So it depends a lot on the description used.

So basically IMO it depends on the exact text that the ebay seller used if Niode is entitled a partial refund here or not.

Ivo.
