I have a 720p Plasma HDTV Im thinking about hooking mt PS2 to it. Would investing in component cables instead of using the standard composite r/w/y?

YES! Read my CRT vs LCD article below. There is a God of War HD mode cheat there.

Here is a Wiki list of PS2 480p games. 1080i on Gran Turismo 4 and Tourist Trophy.

Gamestop has them for 8 bucks.

I have my PS2 hooked up to my 32" bravia via component and trust me its a million times better than standard composite video.

Some 480p games you do have to hold TRIANGLE/X at startup, others hold CIRCLE/SQUARE.

God of War at 480p is very sharp with the cheat enabled!

Too bad your TV doesn't support 1080i; Gran Turismo 4 and Tourist Trophy support 1080i, and supposedly, it looks splendid.

Very sharp pic. Already owned GTR4, only reason to buy the cycle racing game from the same company, to get that 1080i mode. Shame God of War didn't support 1080i, but still, it looks clean at 480p.

I would definitely invest in component cables for the PS2 the image quality looks so much crisper and clear compared to composite. :D

Also dont forget that you get no lag in your fighters when in progressive scan. SF:Anniversary, Soul Calibur 2, and Tekken 4/5 all run in 480p for lagless game play.

For those in the UK/EU don't bother with component cables with the PS2. Stick to RGB SCART. Only 37 games out of the entire library support it, all the rest have real issues with the cable (scrolling screen, purple screen, half the screen missing, flickering). Sony really did a number on us as far as EDTV goes, very few games support 480p let alone higher. The only game that supports higher is Gran Turismo 4 and that's ONLY in the photomode, there's no support in the actual game.
