I Just Bought My First "Rare" Game!

Talk about just about anything else that is non-gaming here, but keep it clean

I Just Bought My First "Rare" Game!

Post by lisalover1 »

Yesterday, I spent $80 on a game, and I couldn't be happier. Yesterday, I went to my local game store, and found a HUGE surprise. 4 of the most valuable Saturn games, sitting right next to each other: Panzer Dragoon Saga, Guardian Heroes, Shining Force III, and Magic Knight Rayearth. All with their original packaging [everything; even the stickers in the Magic Knight Rayearth manual were still there!], and in pristine condition. I was positively in shock, I had never seen these games in the wild before. PDS was $200, Guardian Heroes was $85, Shining Force III was $90, and Magic Knight Rayearth was $80. But, I only had enough for the cheapest of the 4 games, MKR. That didn't bother me; that was actually the game I was looking at [Except Saga, of course]. So, having thoroughly enjoyed the anime and the game, when I played it for a while a couple years back, I snatched it up. and I have no say, I have never seen a Saturn game in such good condition, the aren't any scratches on the case you can see without direct light, and even then, you have to be looking for them. Another thing, as the title says, this is the first rare game in my collection. I may sell it to get money toward buying Panzer Dragoon Saga, but I'm afraid they might have sold it by then. Anyway, I'm proud to own my very first game that is truly "rare".

This is a sweet deal! NA version I assume?

I recently discovered, someone made a nice patch for MKR, basically an UNDUB of the game. Leaving text and graphics from the us american version, and adding in back the sounds/vocals of japanese version. Im looking to own a copy myself, but that would rather be the NTSC/J copy. Ah well, perhaps someday.

You should go back, snatching up one more of those games! ... If you can somehow scratch up the spare moneys, that is...

She prices things to sell at second chance, that's for sure. (Kalamazoo must be a hub for retro gamers)

I'm jealous, lol. I've had my eye on that ever since she put it out, as I'm an extreme Working Designs fan. Sadly I just couldn't persuade myself to spend that kind of money on one game.

I did, however, manage to get the near mint copy of NiGHTS with the controller and box for $20 that was there. And to my great surprise, in the box was also the disc for the NiGHTS Christmas sampler.

Thats awesome! Most of my Saturn games are on burnt discs (thanks, Racketboy!) so I dont have anything rare for that system. My first rare game was Earthbound for the SNES. I got it complete with mega-size box, strategy guide, and mint condition Cartridge all for $29.99 at a local pawnshop two years ago. Since then I found a PAL version of Shenmue 2, and those remain the only rare games I have. Everything else is pretty common, and probably will be for a while untill i have a bigger videogame budget.

I'll have to hit up Kalamazoo for games sometime. I don't see much at all here in Grand Rapids. I did see a good bunch of decent Saturn at Play n Trade the other day. The only one that I can think of is Clockwork Knight, but they all looked in decent condition.

Wow, good guess. Yeah, it was at 2nd chance. I've been doing a lot of shopping there lately; I actually initially came into the store yesterday to buy a bunch of really good Turbografx-16 games, but someone bought them all.
Also, next time I go, they've got a copy of Panzer Dragoon Zwei that I saw for around $15; I'll probably get that.

I think this is fine here instead of in the "Find of the Day" thread as it isn't a particularly "good deal" on the game and I thought the point here was more of the excitement about them getting their first pricey/rare game.

I remember the feeling I had when I first spent around $100 for a game (Spiderman 32x). In that case, it was a dirty feeling. At least in your case, the game in question is actually a good one! Much better to have your "first time" be with something worthwhile.
