Square Enix is making a new Front Mission game! Yay!

It's real exciting news until you realize it's not going to be a SRPG, but instead a 3rd Person Action game. It then becomes extremely saddening news when you realize it's being developed by Double Helix games, who made G.I. Joe - The Rise of Cobra and Silent Hill: Homecoming.

Great job ruining this franchise, Square Enix.

yeah evolved has been in the news for quite a while now. many of the fans are scared out of their mind because of this. they already made a 3rd person action game in the form of an online game (it was well recieved) so what i don't get is why they are going to double helix.

Didn't they announce this last year at E3? I'm cautious about this, but it could turn out good. I'm picturing something on the level of Armored Core 4/For Answer.

I was going to jump in and say "BUT A THIRD PERSON ACTION FRONT MISSION COULD BE COOL" until you mentioned who is actually developing. Now I'm going to shed a tear and nod in agreement.

Hopefully this turns out okay.. will act as a nice stopgap till Mechwarrior V is finished, if at all. The fact FF5 wasn't released outside Japan should have been a good indicator that the SRPG mecha market has shrunk beyond profitability.

Could it have had something to do with the marketing for Front Mission 4 being... nil?

I mean, hell, I work at a game store, and didn't even know it had received an American release until it was in bargain bins.

I didn't even know there was an english one till long after it was out in north america. My dad brought a japanese one back from vietnam and I played it a lot even though I couldn't read any of it. Spent the whole time wishing they would bring it over to the states.

Well most mainstream sites reviewed FM4 and there was buzz around a couple of years ago regarding the fan translation patch for FM5. Must the hype machine be in full swing to even hear of something like a Front Mission sequel?

If they wanna let me know it exists, they should do something about it. Expecting fans and publications to pick up the duties isn't going to cut it.

For God sakes, they advertised the hell out of Last Remnant.

totally. i can't stand how a game like that got soo much hype, yet an already pre-exsisting series that has had it's share of success in the us and is already a huge name in japan gets jack. seriously did anyone see how they advertised Front Mission DS? i think i saw one magazine page. the same goes for FM4 and well we technically never got an official FM5 release in the us (and europe). It's so strange how the FM games have a more western orientation in style and what not...yet for some reason square-enix feels that it wouldn't do as well over here.
