There can be only one

Post by Rounin »

First of apologies if this topic has been posted before.

After watching Highlander  a few days ago it got me thinking if there can be only one, which one would it be?

If you could only own one console which one would it be?

If you could only own one portable which one would it be?

Only one rule no emulation must be original hardware.

In the past I would have easily said the SNES for my one console, but nowadays I will say NES. If I can only have one, I am going to have the one that I have the most memories associated with and the one I can get my friends and family to play with me.

Handheld is hands down the GBA. The DS is good and all, same with the NGPC, but the GBA has Sabrewulf, it wins.

I'll mirror fastbilly's selections and second the NES and GBA as well. The NES was my introduction to the wonderful world of video gaming, and was the first console that my brother and I owned. The N64 still holds a special place in my heart *cough* Goldeneye, but the NES certainly trumps it in the fond memories department. Some favorites include: Blaster Master, Archon (yes, over the C64 version), Zelda 1&2, Mega Man, Castlevania III (HUGE favorite), Mario 2, Metroid, Blades of Steel...and I'll just stop right there. Thanks for the memories, Nintendo!

 @ Luke's list.

::EDIT:: How could I forget my beloved Dreamcast? This is too hard.

If that is a movie I have not watched it
but I think its easy to pick which console to own

ps2
Largest library of any console ever+it runs the second largest gaming library the psx
I think in a way its impossible to get bored with the ps2 or you need a 1000 lifetimes to play its games.

As portables, i do not think you can chose anything other than DS logically, but I will go with gameboy for nostalgia

One game: I am not sure, You can't get bored of everything, but Maybe Super Mario or WoW

I'll second the PS2 as well, theres endless amounts of great games for it. Not being able to play another Mario or Zelda would suck though. NES comes in at a very close second though and holds a special place in my heart. A DS would be the portable system and fill my Nintendoless void.

I guess backwards compatible consoles count? If so:

Console: BC PS3

Portable: DS lite since it plays GBA, though bacterias "IntoDream" would be oh so tempting. :D

If they dont count then it would be PS2 and GBA.

Agreed. Luke's wife or Natalie Portman.

On topic, yeah the PS2. There's enough retro stuff available through the PSX compatibility that I wouldn't miss the 8 bit stuff too much.
