Neo Geo CD Language Mod

Post by lisalover1 »

I just received a NTSC-J Neo Geo CD, and I want to modify it to run multi-language games in English. I posted about this before, but I just want a bit more clear instructions on this procedure. What exactly should I do in the mod? I saw a tutorial about this, but it shows a mod for switching between PAL-E and NTSC-J on an PAL-E console. I don't need a switch, unless it is necessary to play Japanese-only games.

Boobs and blood!

But seriously http://www.egameaddiction.com/neogeocd/ ... bysai.html

This might be the mod you've seen for the switches (Which is what I would do personally) But if you flip the board around you can solder it so it's always a certain region. If you look at the chart it shows an O at JN1 so my assumption would be to solder across JN1 underneath so it's always USA.

I've never done the mod but this logically looks to be what you should do.

Boobs and Blood? You make a convincing argument. How would I make a switch between NTSC-U/J on an NTSC-J console? Which points should I solder?

EDIT: That was the tutorial I saw before. Would that work the same way on a Japanese console?

I don't see why it wouldn't. It's just the jumpers, right?

So, all I need for this mod is a switch, wires, and a soldering iron/solder, correct?

Yup. Actually, I think that's the tutorial I used on my JPN NGCD. And after reading it, you don't even need to use that guide. The country codes are actually printed on the NGCD motherboard, and it's actually labeled "Country Code." If you have a JPN console than there should be no jumpers present. If you want to make it USA region, just add a piece of wire to JN1. If you want to be able to switch between them, wire a SPST switch to JN1.

You don't even need a switch. I changed my NGCD from JPN to USA by just adding a single jumper on the board. Although, I have been thinking about adding a switch so I can see boobs and blood.

For the most part i run my neo cd on jap mode.
--It is just a matter of a single jumper.--

Some games do not have english menu's unless you switch it back though. So some of the metal slug features were nice to read in english. But the white blood is kinda funny.

Yeah, it kinda sucks that it's a trade off. Bloods and guts or being able to read it.
