Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands

Post by Veno »

Ok, so apparently, there might be a new PoP game, titled Forgotten Sands.
Wasn't really the game I was expecting, but hey, it's PoP. Now don't get me wrong, I love the Prince of Persia series, but I think the Sands of Time trilogy is wrapped up, and given the huge cliffhanger ending of Prince of Persia: Epilogue, I was expecting a sequel to that instead.

But, I did say there MIGHT be a new PoP game, because after I thought about why they didn't make a sequel to the new PoP instead, I remembered the movie they were making, and how it's based on the SoT trilogy.

As you can see, I love PoP. Anyway, thoughts?

Film + game = better promotion for both?

Even though the Sands of Time Saga is wrapped up, I much preferred the SoT saga then the new one. I'm playing it at the moment and I have about 600/1001 lightseeds if that tells you how far I am. I don't really care for it as much. Everything feels repetative and the only thing distracting me from this is how epic the environments are. It's amazing. The combat is also a joke and most of the actual gameplay feels like one really long quick time event without the prompts. I had a lot of fun with the time controlling mechanic in the other games and even all of the platforming felt smoother and not watered down like it does in the new one. I would very much like another serving time manipulation. I'm not being too hopeful though, because it sounds too much like they're trying to toss out another game in time for the movie release for some extra money. I'll probably play it anyhow, but still, I'm not getting my hopes up too much.

So it could have something to do with the movie. I thought that made sense.
And I love the Sands of Time trilogy as the next guy, but I also love the new PoP. I felt like they could've used all the negative feedback from the first game(too easy, feels like autoplay, etc.), and fixed those in the sequel. With what they've done from Assassin's Creed to Assassin's Creed 2, I'm sure they could've made an exellent PoP sequel.
I was even daydreaming in class about what the story for the second one could be, but I won't bore you guys.

I've always loved the Prince of Persia series, even back in the old DOS days. I think they should have ended it after the Sands of Time trilogy though. If they are going to make a new one; however, I hope they steal some time puzzle ideas from Braid and integrate them into the 3D world of Prince of Persia.

I tried playing the original prince of persia you unlock in the sands of time. Couldn't do it. It's like trying to tell a tank to do a barrel roll. I fell to my death every jump.

You have to have skill and control over your character. It's not like Sands of Time where you can roll from a high fall, you have to position your character to hold the ledge, then drop.
Whatever, I'm just glad a new one is coming out, but I'm sad they didn't continue with the Prince and Elika. I actually liked the game, and I love the new Prince. Oh well, in due time, right?

I beat Ninja Gaiden though, so I like to think I have SOME credibility.

If this were a movie, a waiter would come buy with your 'I beat ninja gaiden' card and cut it in half to your shock and horror.

but seriously- the original PoP is fucking hard. You gotta trial and error that guy until you get it right. Part of the difficulty (if i remember correctly, it has been a long time) is that depending on where he is in the animation of the run, you may or may not be able to jump.

I kind of wish they would stop fucking with the sands of time. The first game was fantastic, and even though they were making direct sequels, it seemed like they never really got it right after that. I get that when the demand for a sequel is there because a game sells well, you just make one. It is just what you do when you like sleeping on piles of money. I was pretty excited for PoP to finally go in a different direction... and then dissapointed again. Point is, I don't need trilogies or games grouped in different times or whatever the fuck. I just want a good game. Sands of time was that good game, everything else after it has been mediocre.

That said- i'll probably pick up the new one. Sands was in fact so good that it turned me into a sucker.
