Chain Dive - A retro-ish import for PS2

Post by fingersmaloy »

Anyone heard of/played Chain Dive on the PS2? I think it's Japan-only, but it's also awesome-only, in that it is awesome. Some saintly being has uploaded videos of every stage on YouTube. Here's the first one:

The gist: You're a futuristic ninja-like man of mystery who carries some kind of chain made of beams and a double-sided blade like Darth Maul had, except it can encapsulate things in big blocks of ice. Using these two tools, it's up to you to flip, dive, and snap yourself around all over the place, freezing and cutting suckas like it ain't even no thing. But in reality, it is a thing.

The game is 2.5-D and mostly centers around "chaining" together attacks by keeping yourself in the air as long as possible. If you attack an enemy, it'll freeze, at which point you can use the enemy as a grappling point for your chain. In this way you can stay in the air as long as you have enemies and skill. Check out those videos.

I found my copy in Japan for like 12 bucks, so it probably isn't that expensive to import.

From what I know about it, it is Japan only, unfortunately. I like the music though, pretty mellow.

Yeah, but the chain mechanic is a lot snappier than Bionic Commando. Imagine Klonoa 2 meets Shinobi on the PS2 meets flinging army men around the room with a rubber band you stole from the mailman. Or woman.
