Metal Drift: a budget title worth checking out.

I just picked this game up through Steam for $10. It's only in Beta at the moment, but will launch in full in a few weeks. The game is quite a lot of fun. You control futuristic mech-style tanks in an arena. You have to grab the ball and get it to the goal without getting shot down along the way. You can fire, boost, and pass. You control your vehicle movement with the keyboard and your turret movement with the mouse. There is a lot of room to grow skill-wise, so I think this will be a fun one to play over time.

How many buttons does it use on the keyboard? I am very interested, and it looks perfect to play with a joystick and trackball.

AWSD: movement
E: Switch to secondary weapon
U: Chat
Space: Turbo Boost

I think that's it.

The one strange thing is that there is no music during the combat, but I just play i-Tunes while I'm playing and the game isn't a processor hog, so everything runs fine.

Looks cool.

I wish somebody would remake MegaRace though...

After watching alot of gameplay footage, it reminds me quite a bit of Trials of Battle (the old OS/2 game). If in the future it is given three things I will be estatic and will purchase several copies: more loadouts, more stages, more gametypes. Heck if it just gives me straight deathmatch (FFA and Team), then it will completly replace Trials of Battle and will become a must buy in alot of my friends books.

Looks a bit like an evolved multiplayer Ballblazer with weapons. Sounds good to me. :D
