game collection disks

Post by chupon »

So I was in my local retro shop the other day and didn't bother to pick the taito collection volume 2 for PS2 and now I'm kicking myself. Then I started thinking I love al of the collection / anthology disks I own, I wonder how many there really are.

Any place to find a full list of these releases? I noticed there are tons more of these collections that have been released in Japan. Anyone have them all? Recommend any JPN collections worth importing?

I can't stop playing my sega genesis collection but need to upgrade it to the PS3 version so I'll get the Streets of Rage and other games added.

Can someone make a survey so we can vote on which collection is the best?

I've got a couple of the Japanese Namco collections for the PS1 that i'd reccomend;

Namco Museum 5 comes with an awesome run & gun Arcade game called 'Valkyrie no Densetsu'.

Namco Anthology 2 comes with the previous Valkyrie game which is a NES Zelda-like called Valkyrie no Bouken, and while this game hasn't aged well the anthology also comes with the awesome sequel to the arcade Valkyrie no Densetsu which was made exclusively for the Namco Anthology.

Here's a link to HardcoreGaming101's page on the Valkyrie series;

That valkyrie game looks great! I'm buying it today.

Keep the recommendations coming!

I like game collection compilation disks. It's a great way to get lots of classics on the cheap!! I would suggest SNK Classics Vol.1 and Capcom Classics Collection 1,2 (PS2,Xbox).

If you have a ps3/xbox360, Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection is an awesome compilation (40 great Genesis games, and a few SMS/arcade games) for $30. Worth it just for SHining Forces and Phantasy Stars.

Street Fighter Anniversary Collection.
It's got all the versions of SF II and SF Third Strike, which is probably the best fighting game ever made and the best port of the game, in my opinion.

Mega Man/Mega Man X collection.
Each are exactly what you'd expect, plus unlockable games. Worth it for the first X and Mega Man Power Battles alone.

I'd say the DC port of SF:III was better given the DC's 480p output via VGA versus the PS2's 480i ONLY port.

Some will be repeats, but here are the ones I have and I'm pretty happy with them.

SNES
Arcade's Greatest Hits - Robotron 2084, Defender and Joust

Saturn
Arcade's Greatest Hits Atari vol 1 - Tempest, Asteroids, Centipede

PS1
Namco museum vol 5 - The latter are harder to find, but I bought this specifically for Valkyrie too.
R-Types - 1 & 2, pretty faithful and as brutal as I remember the arcade.
Deluxe packs - Konami sets of shmups and cute'em ups

PS2
Atari Anthology - Old Atari classics like Asteroids and such
Capcom Classics 1 & 2 - Tons of good stuff and most of the SF II variants.
Metal Slug Anthology - Cheap and has everything before MS 7.
SNK Classics - You'll get MS again, but lots of other good games.
Samurai Shodown Anthology - Good to be able to play 2 on a big screen again.
Midway Arcade treasures - 1 and 2 are varied, 3 is all racing games. (also on Xbox)
Sega Genesis & Sega Classics collection - The Classics one are remakes of which some are crap. The Outrun and Alien Syndrome are the two best.

GBA
Arcade Advances - Konami Classics

DS
Konami Classics Series Arcade Hits - More Konami stuff, the Contra on here is the arcade version, not the NES, some overlap with the GBA cart.

I'll throw in another vote for The Megaman/X compilations as well as Metal Slug Anthology. Those are the ones I've gotten the most enjoyment out of.
