Dreamcast Party at Play N Trade in NYC
Got this message from the owners of Play N Trade in New York City:
I thought that your constituents in the New York Metro area might like to know
that we are throwing a party for the Dreamcast console on its 10th birthday,
Wed. September 9th. We will have 6 DC's set up so people can play classic games
like Marvel vs Capcom 2, Shinmue, etc. There will also be a special cake and
other fun stuff.
Details on Twitter and Facebook sites shown below.
Thanks
Joe Tartaglia

So jealous.
IDK if the PNT in Kitty Hawk is doing a DC party. Not that it matters, cuz while it is payday for me, I work until 6pm and my parents won't wanna drive me an hour away for a party devoted to a game console (I don't have a license or car yet; and if I had a license but not a car, they wouldn't let me take the car for a couple of hours).
Maybe I'll just do an after-party the next day, since I'm off that day.

If only I could get a ride....
It's good that at least one major game retailer recognizes the system's impact, the manager at my GameStop is letting us stick my spare DC up on the big 27'' SD-TV we usually use for GameStop-TV for all of next week to commemorate the DC's anniversary so I'll be keeping the spirit of the DC alive in my area as well.

For all the crazy FPS people that seem to live in Gamestop be sure to throw up some Half Life, Quake 3, Unreal Tournament, and Soldier of Fortune demo's. Some NHL 2k1, JGR, Metro Street Racer, and Sonic Adventure are always good to show off with too.
Older. Not wiser.

Nope, screw FPS'es. We have to deal with enough idiot customers that can't seem to get enough of them so we'd all drive ourselves nuts if we had one running all day.
I'm going to start the week off with Sonic Adventure, then Street Fighter III Third Strike followed by Crazy Taxi after which it'll be time for Tennis 2K2, REZ comes in next with Soul Caliber hot on it's heels but in the end I'll finish out the week on a high note with Jet Set Radio to close up shop on the festivities.
I'm only going with the games that really made the Dreamcast what it was and made it stand out and above from the pack.

That's awesome, man! Good for you with some sweet game choices! Although I'd recommend Sonic Adventure 2 with all the levels unlocked over Sonic Adventure, personally. It has a much more streamlined interface with the level select screen having the whole map with every character present depending on which level you choose.
And I would personally put Guilty Gear X up as my fighting game; its graphics are so fucking godly, plus it's far more accessible than Third Strike. Or maybe, just maybe it might be a better idea to but Marvel vs. Capcom 2 as your fighting game, since it's causing such a hullabaloo on XBLA and PSN.
Maybe toss Ikaruga or Border Down into the mix? Not many people know the joys of shmups!
Just make sure you use a VMU save disk to unlock all the levels before you set up the games. Gamers should be able to walk in and experience Sonic Adventure, Jet Set Radio, and (above all) Rez in their full glory. God, Area 5 of Rez should be on display everywhere. CONSTANTLY.
I'm being far too intrusive about this, aren't I? Just have fun with it, man! It's awesome that your manager is letting you do that!!

Thanks, the main problem with using a VMU & Jump Pack is that I'm afrad it'll get stolen from the controller unless I super glue them into the slots.
I may do Marvel Vs. Capcom or Sonic Adventure 2, but I'm trying to stick with the games on the system that influenced me the most and irreversibly linked to the Dreamcast.

Definitely understood! Well you might wanna bring your VMU with the saves, load up the files, then take it out before you let everyone play.
Also: you might wanna throw in Cosmic Smash instead of Virtua Tennis. Cosmic Smash makes a better single-player game, plus its visuals are a mind-rape.

Cosmic Smash completely slipped my mind!
Also what are those VMU save discs you mentioned?
Anyhow, I'm thinking of just super gluing one of my spare VMU's into the slot along with my only Jump Pack (I need to get a new controller and Jump Pack anyway) as games like REZ must be experienced with Rumble and the VMU was a really integral part of the Dreamcast's legacy.
