Sega Saturn Swap Trick

Post by Betamax001 »

I have the model 1 Saturn. The guide here on rackeboy says you're supposed to tape something to trick it so it thinks the disc drive is down. I opened up my Saturn to look for it and I'm not sure where or what the thing im supposed to tape down is. Not only that but now the disc drive dosent seem to open right anymore : /
Help Please?

Sorry for the double post but I found what needs to be taped down. The trick didn't work but I suspect what the problem was the disc, not my Saturn. The program I have is Nero StartSmart Essentials. Is this program ok for burning Saturn (and Dreamcast) games?

I use ImgBurn for ISO/mp3 or BIN/cue (which will be most Saturn images), it's a free program, and most will agree a very good program. For Dreamcast you'll need Disk Juggler or Boot Dreams.

Burn slow. 4x is a good speed. You can use CDI2NERO to convert the Disc Juggler images without issue most of the time.

My saturn is picky about CD-R media, and won't read cheap ones. Buy some good quality CD-Rs. Also I've found that not every retail/original game that you swap with to work, try another one. Alcohol 120% is great for both saturn and dreamcast isos, and will burn any image format you throw at it..

Tgod, what media works best for you?

I've been burning a lot of coasters with my cheap Memorexes, and have about lost patience. Especially since I'm trying to get Panzer Dragoon Saga disc 2 to work.

My last batch of Saturn burns were done on cheap TDK, but my previous spindle was Memorex and those worked fine. I know I keep posting this over and over in every burn thread, but burn slow at 4x.

Oh that's bad news for me.

I've been doing it at 4x, checking the image (and burnt disc) in an emulator, etc. Still, it's extremely hit or miss.

Since I'm new to this, let me ask you: Sometimes, the disc won't boot at all — gets dumped to the CD player immediately — but in PDS's case, it loads all the way to the continue screen, then dumps to the cd player. Is that consistent with cheap media, in your experience? Or do I have something else working against me?

Any help would be appreciated. I'd really like to finish the game.
