I recently picked up Final Fight One for GBA. From what I've read, it's a pretty near-perfect port of the arcade game (minus some boobs) and it looked great from screens I had seen. I had never actually played Final Fight. But I had played a lot of Capcom's games that built on the Final Fight engine (Captain Commando, etc). I've also played a fucking ton of similar arcade beatemups, so I felt obliged to play one of the Classics.
So I loaded it up on the ol' Gameboy player. And a half hour later it was beat. What the fuck? Is this game REALLY this short? And easy? I mean really, it's basically just jump kicking dudes over and over. The only minor challenge was the final boss.
Don't get me wrong. The graphics are great and all but, I just can't help but feel there should've been a lot more play-time. Am I missing something?
Final Fight... seriously?

I think you are missing the fact that it was an arcade game, which tend to be shorter than console games that aren't coin operated. It will especially seem shorter when there are checkpoints thrown in and such like there was for Final Fight One.
By the way, it is no way near a perfect port (if we are talking graphics) I remember reading that the sprites were from the SNES version, not the arcade, though they threw in the female characters. Which kind of confuses me about your "minus some boobs" comment.

Did you get through it on one credit? If not then
.
There are tons of hours worth of game time while you are building up to a 1cc.
Edit: Ive got to say I have never played the GBA version myself and if you did 1cc it in that time not having played it before then props to you.

No it doesn't have the girl characters. It has the replaced guy characters.
I did not get thru on "one quarter", but still I can't help but be surprised by its brevity. I don't know. Captain Commando was a lot longer if I remember correctly.

Double Dragon was pretty short too from what I remember. Maybe the games at the beginning on the genre were just shorter than the games that came after.
Re: Final Fight... seriously?
Final Fight CD is probably the best port of the game.
Anyways, did you ever try Final Fight 2 or 3?

Captain Commando is 10 stages, the 8th one is bloody murder the first time you play it.
