Beatmania and emulation

Post by Kyle »

So I'm thinking about to buy Beatmania for PS. And I wonder, is it possible to use the Beatmania controller with any Emulator? I haven't found any options in ePSX or Xebra.
Any idea?

You will probably have to use a third party program to map the buttons to keys on the keyboard - ie joy2key or ppjoy for windows. Then map those buttons to the controller buttons needed.

Sounds good! I will try it.
I know there are many beatmania games in Japan. Can anyone recommend some?

I think you can actually get any of the xbox 360 wired dance pads and hook em up to your pc, and use it that way. Saves you time and compatibility hassles.

Yes but you have a Beatmania controller not a Beatmania IIDX controller. The IIDX controller and games have 7 keys instead of 5. You can use it but you will have to toggle the "5-key" option which autoplays the 6th and 7th note.

I advise you to get a 7-key controller as it makes the game more enjoyable. I advise you the use of Lunatic Rave because it's the best emulator around.

Also some people say there are certain ways to get the arcade game running on Windows XP...

so I managed it to connect the beatmania controller with my PC and to play emulated beatmania games. I configured the buttons to the beatmania controlls and choosed in the options in the game to take the normal controller and it works!

I suggest you download mame. It plays all first generation beatmania arcade games flawlessly. Second generation (DXII) should work sometime in the future as well. Qualitatively, the arcade games are much better then the playstation titles, and your beatmania controller should work just fine with it.
