I am a complete idiot, how about you?

When I collect games and consoles etc I always shop for a bargain, pretty much obsessively - ebay, amazon, many different shops daily. I'm currently trying to get Earthworm Jim 1+2 for the Megadrive as the copies I had age 10 are currently MIA. So i've set a limit to spend less than £5 inc shipping each, it could be difficult for 2, but I will eventually find them.

Moving on to last night, I drank, and I drank and I drank, I spent lots of money getting into clubs, gigs, on drinks, burgers and a couple of cabs, I spent about £45 on a monday night, some of the things I paid for are just crazy too, like if i'd gone to the club earlier then I would have saved £5, but I decided to drink more in a bar first.

I can't be the only one who is so thrifty on one hand, and then just mental when it comes to other things. I am literally ashamed of how often I go out and spend that much, it's fun at the time, but I am guaranteed to wake up in the morning with my head in my hands, and not only because i've forced myself to sleep in the recovery position.

If I was making a point at the start of this thread it's long since gone and turned into a rant at myself.

I do the same thing! I'll shop carefully and use coupons at the grocery store, and wait for sales to buy video games, but then I'll go and spend hundreds of dollars at comic book conventions. If I could just find that thrifty nature when I'm at the cons, I think I would be in much better financial shape.

Hey man, still better than spending a lot on games AND night life. A penny saved is a penny earned. And then promptly spent.

::EDIT:: Sorry, "pence". Is that the right nomenclature?

I feel ya bro. I do all my own work on my cars so I don't have to pay somebody to do it, but a Saturday night in Tokyo with friends runs me about 30,000 to 40,000 yen. Trendy bars, restaurants, clubs, etc etc. I never regret it, though. Worth it, I'd say. You only live once.

Very thrifty on most every aspect of my life, but I eat out for lunch most days during the week. Mainly because if I dont I will become a drone like the rest of my team. I gotta get off campus for a time, no matter how short it may be.

I live in Seattle, so all expenditures get compared to the price of a cup of coffee. A coffee can easily cost around $5, especially if you tip your barista. Realizing, that I am choosing between a used PS2 game and a cup of overpriced coffee has led me to greatly reduce my coffee drinking.

Also, I stopped drinking alcohol awhile back, I try to only eat out once per week, and my wife goes crazy if I don't use coupons or buy things that were not on sale, so I've become pretty good about not buying stupid crap... except for the games of course (and CDs).

I once had a $500 bar tab but i can't justify spending $15 for CIB Castlevania: Bloodlines.

I used to drop tons of cash at bars and clubs but I curbed that behavoir a few years ago. I got so sick of waking up broke and hung over. But yeah, Im generaly a cheap ass when it comes to games too. Its weird because if a new game I want comes out I dont mind spending $40-60 on it depending how bad I want to play it but if its an older game I want to get it under $10 even if its a game I want to play badly. For some reason that same $40 seems like a lot of money if its a PS1 game ... or whatever.

I havent been able to justify spending $250 on a Neo Geo but last week in California i spent $750 in one day eatting and drinking.
Did I have a good time? Yes.
Would I have rather spend one third of that on video games that I can have forever? Probably

And that was only one day out of a 6 day trip that included loosing a bunch of money in Vegas.
Ah what the hell.
As someone mentioned you only get to live once.
