Anybody keeping up with it? It's pretty interesting.

It looks like Soul Caliber is gonna lose to the likes of FFVIII, Starcraft, and Xenogears. I don't even like fighting games much, but Soul Caliber on the DC is way better than any of those games.

Nah, I remember when they did the first character battle, and after watching how it simply collapsed into a popularity contest like I expected it would, I decided not to bother with them. When I see one, I'll throw in a vote, but I don't follow them.

All of them overrated IMO. Oh well

Oh btw i do think starcraft is amazing beyond what any of those game can do.

Yeah the voting for best X ever is getting a little tired, and I don't doubt that it will be FFVII or Zelda OoT. As for two different Pokemon games winning, WTF? Are they really THAT different? Call me a Banjo fanatic but I was sad to see him lose so quickly.

I'd argue Starcraft betters Soul Calibur pretty handily. It's an older game with a broad fan base that just won't quit. You never see that game in the bargain bins.

None of the games I nominated, including Ikaruga and Radiant Silvergun, made the rounds, so you can imagine what I think of the contests. It's a fanboy competition through and through. The final rounds almost always amount to Final Fantasy VII, Ocarina of Time, some Mario title (can't remember which), and Starcraft. Starcraft is the anomaly - as generally Square and Nintendo titles reign. That's a testament to the devotion of Starcraft fans - they pour in from other sites, which includes a large Korean influence, just to vote for the game.

Similarly, the finals of the character battles amount to Cloud, Sephiroth, Link, and Mario. Every. Single. Year.

Yep, predictable stuff.

Not to say I'm surprised, it's a public poll so fanboys will always win out. But the fanboys are so predictable, and hearing that "Sephiroth" is the coolest bad guy yet another year in a row just bores the ever loving crap out of me.


I don't like polls and the sort in general on the internet, it always wins down to some fanboy swarm tilting the scale falsely with absurd number of votes... some of which are double. It's about advertising your hopeful player.

For instance, I like the "Colbert Report", but some of the things Colbert does drive me fucking nuts and I do not like it. Like the NASA name this node poll and Colbert advertising himself to the entire nation. Of course he's going to win! Anyone who's going to visit the site through that advertisement is going to vote Colbert. And seeing as he is the ONLY nomination on the ballet that is advertising nation wide... it's a no brainer. When NASA basically shut him out and denied him the title... I was happy. That was just rude, normal fanboy, attrocious actions from Colbert and the overly annoying "Colbert Nation".

I think we should pull together some giant group of gamers and vote for one obscure game as the best ever, like maybe this one...
