Teaching a new generation!

Post by Boaradoor »

So like the name states, have you done your part in teaching the new generation about retro gaming?

My sister is turning 8 soon! And I think I am doing well in teaching her!
She can name almost all the Sega Consoles, and Nintendo consoles. She
likes to play Sonic the hedgehog on the Sega Genesis! Or Super Mario World
on the SNES. By far her favorite game is The Legend of Zelda: A link to the Past,
on the GBA. I'm trying to make her love Sega consoles! Because Sega is my favorite!

What have you guys taught the new generation?

My daughters best feat so far is beating SMB 3 at the age of 5. It was the GBA version with save support but thats still pretty good in my eyes. When I got her New Super Mario Bros for her ds, she beat it in a week. Now I understand why my parents were pissed whenever I asked for a new game lol. Thank god for the R4 I just bought for her.

you are giving her a very bad example about pirating games...if she is raised with it, she will think, that it is normal ...

So many people do it, I think it's now abnormal not to do it in some form.

I have one of my nieces working her way down. She has already gnawed one of cube controllers a good bit and before you know it she will be playing Mario 2. I guess I should have waited until she was one to start.

I do plan on teaching her about classic games, even before videogames, when she gets older. She will be one of the few people in her elementary school who has even heard of Advanced Squad Leader, let alone played it.

Because clearly he'd have her playing link to the past on gba if he were pirating. Hell, I was a pc gamer from the begining and not a single game on my families computer was legit, that's never stopped me from buying games.

GBC - Animal Crossing has taught my 3 year old how to read. She also just turned 4 this month and helped her mother turn on the 360, LCD, Bose system, and Netflix so they could watch a movie together. Because mommy still can't figure it out ...

Man, my 6 year old loves gaming so much that I was actually forced to put restrictions on it. He would seriously play his DS for 6-8 hours a day if I let him.

He is 80+ stars into Super Mario 64 DS. Hasn't beaten yet because Bowser kicks his ass every time. I helped him with the the other Bowser fights at first because I kept expecting him to lose interest in the game eventually, but now I'm making him beat the final boss on his own.

He's also been dabbling in some Zelda. I'm making sure that his first experience with the series is with LttP because it's still the best one.
