Wii on a projection screen
Wii on a projection screen
Hey guys, is it possible to hook the Wii into a projector, project it onto a screen, and still use it normally? I'm wondering about motion control, and I seem to remember having a conversation where it was said it would not work, but I can't remember. I'm asking because some folks in my department wanted to know if it was possible.
Re: Wii on a projection screen
Yes - we have done it at every Tigerlan since they came out - you even played Warioware on it with us at 11...
Now you might need to do some finagling with light sources for the remote to make it work properly, but that is an entire different question.

Re: Wii on a projection screen
I am going to guess that your console is running in 16x9 at 480p correct (aka through component/HD cables)?
Re: Wii on a projection screen
I have no problem running VC games on my lcd on widescreen 480p through component cables. I played the Lost Levels just a couple of days ago.
Re: Wii on a projection screen
Yup, the Wiimote is TV agnostic. It triangulates with two LEDs in the sensor bar to determine where your pointer is.
As for the VC games, what are your specific symptoms?

Re: Wii on a projection screen
If you are gaming on a huge projection screen (as in more than a couple hundred inches) then you will need to find 2 infra-red light sources. Place them a couple of feet apart and game away.
The Wii will work fine in this manner it will just see the two infra-red sources as a very big sensor bar and not have a problem.

Re: Wii on a projection screen
I know that many of the older VC titles have issues with the cable, more so for PAL titles than NTSC. However there are workarounds. Some suggest that you update the system then redownload the titles. Another suggestion is to change the interlace mode:

Hope that helps or atleast eliminates some potential problems.

Re: Wii on a projection screen
I've not had a problem with any of my VC titles on my Wii and I use a component cable. The system just automatically switches to 576i mode and my TV displays it correctly.
