Agetec dc arcade stick question

Hello All!
This is my first post on this forum, so i just wanted to introduce myself!
Now for the real post...
I just picked up an agetec dreamcast arcade stick for 25 bucks, which I felt was a pretty good deal.
Now, that I have played with it for a bit, it seems that the buttons seem to stick a bit, and the stick is not as responsive as I wanted it to be.
My question is this, Should I take it apart and try to clean the buttons as well as the stick? Or is there a good chance i might screw it up.
I have modded things in the past, so i am not to worried, I just didn't want to pull this thing apart and damage something without realizing.
Thanks in advance!
