UK eBay shipping

Post by Thierry Henry »

I just got a good deal on an original Xbox system(PAL) and the seller now informs me that the shipping will be via Royal Mail Airmail International signed-for.
So I'm just asking the UK guys here whether or not an item with a weight of nearly 5kg's(when fully packaged) can be shipped via the above shipping method? I usually get my stuff from the US so I'm not too clued up on UK shipping at all.
I mean this seller is relatively new so could he perhaps be mistaken with the allowed weight limit?
I was under the impression that the xbox is just too heavy for this type of shipping and would require some form of courier service. The seller though insists that shipping can be done via RMA signed-for.
So is he correct or just misinformed? Hopefully the UK guys here can give me an answer before any screw up happens with the shipping.
Thanks.

According to the royal mail website, Royal Mail Airmail only covers letters, small packets & printed papers - so yeah, the seller will definetly need to use a courier service.

Thanks.
From my understanding, there is a 5kg limit on this shipping service but I think that's just for sending books and/or pamphlets. So that weight limit basically refers to just printed matter. I think that's where this seller got confused.

Yeah this seller has no idea what he's talking about. He'll need to use Parcelforce or DHL for a parcel of that size.

I haven't found that at all. Who are these "lot of guys" you're referring to?
I mean even sellers on eBay who don't even specify international shipping, whenever I've asked them to ship to me, more often than not they have agreed to do so.

Well I sometimes see sellers saying they won't ship to Nigeria etc. on their Ebay page because of scammers (not you obviously).

So you're actually referring to a few places in the continent of Africa, not South Africa itself. Big difference.
